Welcome to the Friendship Manifesto!
Inspired by ship_manifesto
, I created this community for the express purpose of celebrating platonic love and friendship in fandom. Because while I am dedicated to a few romantic 'ships, my heart has always been even more devoted to my fandoms' friendships. Londo&Vir. John&Stark. Pilot&Aeryn. Sisko&Kira. All of these are brimming with fascinating dynamics- fascinating histories. All of these are captivating even without sex.

has brought up some good questions regarding relationship elgibility. I have reproduced those questions and my answers below:Can one do an ampersand version of a slash essay, refocusing on the friendship?
Yes, absolutely. I know, for example, that there are many out there who don't think of Londo and G'Kar's relationship in slash terms, but are fascinated by them in a friendship sense. In fact, I too enjoy strictly gen stories featuring both characters. So if one was to offer to do a gen essay on Londo&G'Kar, I'd be elated. And do the characters need to be canonical friends? Or can they be canonical enemies for whom there's actually good friendship fics?
Yes. Explaining fanons is a legitimate purpose of meta. Really, if Harry/Draco is allowable over on ship_manifesto
, I don't see why canonical enemies with friendship fanons couldn't be allowed here. Also, can one do family members who are actively enemies, most of the time?
Yes, I think so, because even in those situations, there's a bond to contend with. And can the friendship be minor?
Again, if I'm not mistaken, there are essays on ship_manifesto
featuring minor characters, or featuring major characters who don't interact much in canon, but do in fanon. So yes to this as well.Note:
Exerting moderator authority, I claim Londo&Vir from Babylon 5
and Crichton&Stark from Farscape

No flaming. Constructive debate is fine.
This depends on the response, of course, but I plan on scheduling the first posting due date for October 24, 2004.A Clarification Regarding Expected Content
We're using the same format as ship_manifesto
here. Introduce us to the characters involved, describe the development of the relationship over time, tell us why your gen relationship so fascinates you, and, if you can, give us some fic and vid recs so we can check it out for ourselves. Current Mood: creative
